Effective Recruitment Activities

Effective recruiting events will bring the small business more than a few new faces. New recruits will pay huge dividends almost immediately. Over half of the new hires companies hire won't work out, but just their appearance can have a positive influence on the small business. Besides the obvious advantages of integrating new talent, there are many other factors that help organizations succeed.

Refresher Course

New employees bring fresh enthusiasm and optimism to the small-business environment. As the new hires become familiar with company processes and systems, seasoned employees will, to some degree, undergo a refresher course. When training the new guy, the more experienced worker will revisit troubleshooting protocols, basic functions of the office and company policies. As new employees do not work in a vacuum, training will require everyone's help.

Creates Healthy Competition

It is natural for the long-term employee to become comfortable in her position. Smart new employees will shake up the status quo, causing healthy competition. While the small business's newest team members work through the learning curve, established workers will work harder to prove their worth. (Monica, 2004)

Builds Company Pride

Recruiting events, like job fairs or career days, build an individual's pride, then company pride. As representatives for the small business, employees remember the reasons why they chose to work for their particular company. Sharing positive experiences with potential employees will give established employees an opportunity to reflect on their personal commitment to the business. (Patrick, 2002)

Alleviates Workloads

Before the small business hires new employees, it will prove its need for them by tightening the company's productivity. When preparing for growth, the company may increase the workload as it shifts responsibilities around to create room. During this time, workers will take on more of the necessary duties, and this may continue during new employee training. Successful recruiting will bring relief to the hard-working individuals who shouldered the load during the transition.

Fresh, new minds bring innovative ideas. Assertive new hires may bring solutions for old problems. Small-business owners need to harvest new employees' ideas and thoughts at their first review or after their training period. Having a fresh perspective on the company will help the organization tackle challenges and continue to grow. New employees may also have good information about cutting-edge technologies that could streamline performance.
